End blocks need to be stable and relatively light, that is why I use Mahogany, Spruce or Polar.
Flat Top Guitars
I use over 14 different templates to form the basic body shape of my range of flat top guitars, this is the starting point. I can vary the body depth, make them into a cutaway or double cutaway, the neck width can be wide or narrow, long or short scale neck etc. The variables play a major part in the final outcome, they help define the musicians sound and technique.
As an example : If a musician is after a bright slim body fast action guitar, or if they need a big driving sound for playing live, we consider the soundboard, the body shape and depth, how they want the instrument amplified, type and set up of frets and string. A lot of effort goes into planing before the build.
Off the shelf manufactured instruments, the decisions are made for you, when working with a Luthier, you have a say.
